Stigma Remember

STIGMA emerged from the UK’s growing reggae underground in the early 1980s, blending roots tradition with the raw edge of Britain’s street sound systems. Band members, Bubbla, Pipa, Paul Led by vocalist Frank Tobin and writer‑producer collaborators including JP Palmer now known as JP-MASSIVE. Who became the First Rasta Model in the world, debuting on the runway of Olympia at London Fashion Week for Vivian Westwoods show in 1981.

The group carved out a small but powerful presence with their debut single “Remember” on the JP Palmer aka JP-MASSIVE independent label Stigmatic Sound. which was independently finance and owned by JP Palmer aka JP-MASSIVE. At the same time a producer named Tony Clark, gave Stigma two weeks free studio time. In the worlds most famous Abbey Road.

Released in 1981, Remember delivered a soulful vocal cut on the A‑side and a heavy, stripped‑back Dub Style version on the flip, a format built for selectors and sound system culture. Stigma’s music reflected the era’s grassroots energy: self‑produced, self‑released, and pressed in limited runs that circulated through record shops, community stations, and dancehall nights.

Though never a mainstream act, Stigma became one of those names whispered among collectors and DJs, a snapshot of the UK reggae movement at its most authentic: raw, independent, and full of spirit.
